The Mind Boggling Wonder: Phil Ivey

Born on February 1st, 1976 in Riverside California Phil Ivey is considered one of the world's most elite and famed Poker Stars, and this can be seen by his immense winnings and successes over the past several years leading all the way back to childhood. You could say that Ivey's career started at an extremely early age when his family moved to New Jersey. Growing up close to Atlantic City, Ivey took advantage of his new home filled with the glamor of slot machines, poker tables and a strip full of glistening casinos.

Also known as "No Home Jerome" and "the Tiger Woods of Poker," Ivey brings a set of skills to the table which other players in time have had a hard time surpassing. Winning millions of dollars through various tournaments it seems as if there is no stop to Ivey. Others fear his competition and tactics and quite often know their chances of beating out such a talented player is slim.

Ivey's breakthrough occurred in the year 2000 when he was the first player ever to defeat Amarillo Slim. Shortly after at the 2002 World Series of Poker he went on to win three bracelets as well as beating out several other players for the most tournament wins in a year. He also tied with two other players; Ted Forrest and Phil Hellmuth Jr but who knows what Ivey will be capable in years to come. A few years later in 2005, Ivey won the buy-in Pot Limit Omahachampionship which yielded him winnings of nearly $635,603 for only a buy in of $5,000. When it comes to the World Poker Tour Events Ivey has made his way to seven final tables as well as racking in 1.3 million dollars over the years. Ivey is also the youngest player to ever win eight World Series of Poker bracelets as well as being tied with Erik Seidel for the fifth most of all-time. Also, at age 34, he was the youngest player to ever win eight Dominating players around the world is what Ivey does best and this can be shown through the years of showing long time championships to their end. One might call him one of the most dangerous poker players to ever step foot at the table.

Although Ivey does not historically hold the record for lifetime earnings, he is quite well off with $14,721,891 as of March 2013, with numerous years to go before he retires from the game. He currently lives in the gambling capitol of the world; Las Vegas, NV with his wife. He still has his passion for poker and participates in tournaments all of the world as well as being seen playing on TV nearly every day. Respected and feared by several players in the same, Ivey will continue to make an impact on the world of poker influencing and frightening off many.
